Developing Maths Skills - Level 3

Overview

The primary focus and emphasis for this Level 3 course is to develop the personal maths skills of tutors.

Description


The course will enable tutors to explore and develop their own teaching methods and offers a wide range of resources to assist in this process. 

The content of maths and common sugent errors is explored which encourages a more flexible approach with learners.

You will be encouraged to work collaboratively and innovatively in the sessions, looking at developing resources to stimulate their learners.

You will develop confidence and new skills to apply to and support your own teaching.

How long is the course?

9 weeks.

How will I be assessed?

Informal assessment through discussion and self evaluation of progress.

A short presentation of a personal maths resource or teaching method.

There is no examination.

Success rates

100% pass rate.

What will I study?

At the start of the course you will undergo an honest self-assessment of your own skills, to identify areas for self development. You will also study:

- Exploration of fundamental mathematics
- Analysis of probability, algebra, trigonometry and data handling
- Analysis of common learner errors

What can I go on to study?

LLUK L5 Numeracy qualification for subject specialists.

Other related couses at the college including teacher training courses where applicable.

Entry requirements

You will ideally be a tutor with some involvement in the delivery of numeracy/maths at Levels 1 and 2.

You may be continuing onto a teacher training course or already qualified, but wishing to improve your maths skills.
