Overview

The Advanced Diploma in Purchasing and Supply develops an understanding of the issues which affects the business environment and impinge on the management of the purchasing and supply function. The qualification is aimed at those working in managerial and specialist roles within procurement.

Description

The Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS) is the leading international body representing procurement and supply chain management professionals.

A CIPS qualification is widely regarded as an international benchmark of excellence, enhancing standards of professionalism and performance throughout purchasing and supply.

The course is delivered at this 'CIPS Centre of Excellence' by a range of tutors. The course co-ordinator has relevant industry experience and has MCIPS via the Graduate Diploma qualification.

How long is the course?

The course takes a minimum of one year depending on the chosen study pattern.

Attendance is part-time afternoon and evening each week, to complete the course in one year.

Alternatively, students can study either afternoons or evenings, which would lead to the level being completed in 18 to 24 months.

How will I be assessed?

Examinations are held during the third week of May and November each year.

Candidates are required to submit entry forms and payment for examinations to CIPS. Details can be found on the CIPS website.

What will I study?

Five modules are studied on the Level 5 course.

There are three core (compulsory) modules which are:

  • CIPS Management in the purchasing function
  • CIPS Risk management and supply chain vulnerability
  • CIPS Improving supply chain performance

Two elective modules available in the current A to Z are:

  • CIPS Sustainable procurement
  • CIPS Storage and distribution in supply chains

The following options may become available with sufficient demand:

  • CIPS Operations management in the supply chain
  • CIPS Marketing for purchasers
  • CIPS Contracting in the public sector
  • CIPS The machinery of government

What can I go on to study?

Once complete, progression is to the CIPS Graduate Diploma in Purchasing and Supply Level 6.

Entry requirements

Students must have achieved the CIPS Foundation Diploma (Level 4), or the CIPS (International) Advanced Certificate in Purchasing and Supply or have been awarded exemptions by CIPS.

How much does it cost?

Please refer to the individual module descriptiins for the current course fees. Please note that the fees do not include the study guides for each module, which can be purchased directly from CIPS.

CIPS registration fees and examination fees are also in addition to course fees, and paid directly to CIPS.
