Description

This course is a basic introductory course covering practical and job related knowledge required for a career in brickwork. You will gain a nationally recognised qualification which will help you to develop your basic skills and progress to higher level courses.

How long is the course?

One year.

How will I be assessed?

You'll be assessed through the following methods:

  • Practical assessment
  • Theory tests
  • Online tests
  • Health and safety test

What will I study?

The course consists of units which cover basic blocklaying and bricklaying skills, basic cavity walling, building methods and construction technology.

What can I go on to study?

Entry requirements

  • Four GCSEs at grade A*-D (including maths and English or the equivalent)
  • Initial assessment
  • Aptitude test

You will need to attend an interview with the tutor before being accepted on to the course. You may also need to supply at least one written reference from a teacher or employer (in some cases two) and/or your current school or college report.

Mature students (those aged 21 or over) who do not have the qualifications required for entry may still be eligible, subject to an interview. Relevant experience, a strong portfolio of work and a commitment to the subject you wish to study may be acceptable for certain courses.
