BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children's and Young People's Settings

Overview

This qualification aims to develop knowledge and awareness of health, social care and children's and young people's settings. Students will develop an understanding of the similarities and differences between these settings. You will also study a BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Workskills qualification that prepares you for entering employment.

Description

This is a 25 credit qualification that consists of seven mandatory units and two or three optional units selcted by the tutor. The units will cover:

- the range of service provision 
- the roles within these service provision
- values and princoples
- equality and inclusion 
- protection and safeguarding
- healthly eating
- human growth and development

The Workskills Certificate is a 13 credit qualification. It covers searching and applying for a job, preparing for an interview, interview skills, postive attitudes and behaviours at work and working in a team.

How long is the course?

One year.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through a variety of methods including projects, presentations, posters and assignments.

What will I study?

As well as studying the BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children's and Young People's Settings and the BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Workskills, you will also be expected to complete all three Functional Skills assessments in English, Mathematics and ICT.

 

What does the course lead to?

This course may lead to emploment within the health and social care sector or progression onto further study.

What can I go on to study?

Potential progression upon completion of the course could include:

- BTEC Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 2
- Additional GCSEs
- Other related Level 2 courses 
- An apprenticeship

Entry requirements

A minimum of four GCSEs at grade E or above or an Entry Level 3 qualification with a minimum of two units achieved at Level 1 and a standard of literacy and numeracy appropriate to this level of study.  You must provide two good references (at least one from a tutor/teacher) and be successful at interview.
