Apprenticeship Plumbing NVQ 2

Overview

This apprenticeship allows you to study towards a recognised qualification whilst in an employed position.

If you work in a plumbing role then this is the apprenticeship for you.

Description

Your apprenticeship will include installing plumbing and heating systems into new buildings.

You will also maintain and repair existing systems and equipment, working under the direction of your maintenance or estates manager.

You will cover:

  • Health & safety
  • Working relationships
  • Improvement of the plumbing work environment
  • Install piping systems and components
  • Decommission plumbing systems
  • Maintaining plumbing systems and components
  • Safety
  • Hot & cold water systems
  • Central heating pipe work
  • Electrical supply
  • Sheet lead weathering
  • Practical tasks

How long is the course?

The course normally lasts two years, depending on the individual.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed in your place of work. Underpinning knowledge and practical support is given one day a week at West Nottinghamshire College.

Success rates

The success rate is 90% for the plumbing apprenticeship.

What will I study?

As part of your apprenticeship you will cover the following:

  • NVQ 2 Plumbing

  • Level 2 in Certificate in Basic Plumbing Studies

  • Portfolio of onsite assessments

  • Key Skills Level 2 Communications

  • Key Skills Level 2 Application of Number.

What does the course lead to?

After completing the apprenticeship, as a plumber you will be equipped with the necessary skills and qualifications required for working within the plumbing industry.

What can I go on to study?

Following on from the level 2 there is the opportunity for progression onto an advanced apprenticeship at level 3 and the potential to work in a supervisory role. 

Entry requirements

You will need a good educational background, preferably GCSE grade C in English and Science.

Good communication skills are essential.

You must be employed in a plumbing role.

How much does it cost?

If you are between the age of 16 and 18 the apprenticeship is free of charge. If you are 19 and above your employer must pay a one off fee.

During your apprenticeship your employer is obliged to pay you a wage at the minimum rate for an apprentice.
