Apprenticeship Motor Vehicle (Car or Motorcycle) NVQ 2

Overview

This apprenticeship allows you to work as an apprentice whilst you study on light vehicle maintenance and repair. You will choose to specialise in either cars or motorcycles.

Description

During your apprenticeship your focus will be the working on, servicing and repairs of either cars or motorcycles.

How long is the course?

24 months but can be achieved sooner if you have prior achievement or experience.

How will I be assessed?

The NVQ is delivered in the workplace. Your assessor will visit you once a month.

The technical certificate is delivered on day release at college.

Success rates

The success rate is 100% for the motor vehicle apprenticeship.

What will I study?

As part of your apprenticeship you will study the following:

  • NVQ Level 2 Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (Cars or Motorcycles)

  • Technical Certificate in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair

  • Key Skills Level 1 Application of Number

  • Key Skills Level 1 Communication

  • Key Skills Level 1 ICT.

What does the course lead to?

As a mechanic with a recognised qualification you will have gained the competency needed to offer all of the services relating to light vehicle maintenance and repair.

What can I go on to study?

You can further your skills and experience by studying the advanced apprenticeship and foundation degrees.

Entry requirements

No specific entry requirements are necessary for the apprenticeship, however GCSE grades A to C are desirable.

Enthusiasm and previous experience would be taken into account if you fail to achieve the desired grades.

You need to be employed in a job that involves maintenance and repair on cars or motorcycles.

How much does it cost?

If you are between the age of 16 and 18 the apprenticeship is free of charge. If you are 19 and above your employer must pay a one off fee.

During your apprenticeship your employer is obliged to pay you a wage at the minimum rate for an apprentice.
