Apprenticeship Mail Services NVQ 2

Overview

This apprenticeship allows you to study towards a recognised qualification whilst in an employed position.

If you are interested in pursuing a career in mail services then this is the apprenticeship for you.

Description

As an apprentice you will gain experience and qualifications as a deliverer or sorter of mail.

Your duties will involve small parcel and letter delivery by van or as traditional postman, and sorting of mail in-house in preparation of delivery.

How long is the course?

The course normally lasts one year to 18 months, depending on the individual.

How will I be assessed?

The NVQ will be delivered in the workplace where your assessor will visit you for support and assessment. 

The technical certificate and key skills will be delivered at college on day release.

What will I study?

Your apprenticeship is made up of the following elements to complete your framework:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Mail Services 
  • Key skills application of number
  • Key skills communications

What does the course lead to?

You will be qualified as a mail delivery worker or to work in the in-centre sorting processes.

You may have the opportunity to progress to a supervisory role and study a level 3 qualification.

What can I go on to study?

The apprenticeship can lead to an advanced apprenticeship at level 3. For this you will be required to work in a position supervising others.

Entry requirements

No specific entry requirements are necessary for the apprenticeship. Literacy and numeracy skills to a level one are desirable but we can offer additional learning support if required.

You must be employed in a relevant role.

How much does it cost?

If you are between the ages of 16 and 18 the apprenticeship is free of charge. If you are 19 and above your employer must pay a one off fee.

During your apprenticeship your employer is obliged to pay you a wage at the minimum rate for an apprentice.
