Apprenticeship (Programme Led) Health and Social Care NVQ 2

Overview

This apprenticeship is programme led, which means you will study towards a recognised qualification at college as well as gaining valuable work experience on a placement.

This is a non-employed trainee position.

If you are interested in pursuing a career as a care assistant then this is the apprenticeship for you.

Description

Your apprenticeship will cover:

  • Supporting the care, protection and wellbeing of adults in either age group 18-65 or 65+ with either learning or physical disabilities.
  • Working as part of a team to provide the best possible care.
  • Main areas of care including personal care, ensuring a safe environment, communication skills, building independence.
  • Completing records for individuals.
  • Demonstrating health and safety practice.

How long is the course?

Depending on the individual the course normally lasts one year to eighteen months.

How will I be assessed?

You will spend three days a week on work placement and one day a week in the college.

Success rates

The success rate is 75% for the health and social care apprenticeship.

What will I study?

As part of your apprenticeship you will cover the following:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care
  • VRQ Technical Certificate Level 2 in Health and Social Care 
  • Key skills level 1 in application of number
  • Key skills level 1 in communication
  • Employer rights and responsibilities
  • Health and safety training
  • CRB check.

What does the course lead to?

At the end of your apprenticeship you will have a recognised qualification as well as the necessary skills and experience to support your future career in care.

You can progress onto the level 3 if your aim is to advance to a supervisory level.

What can I go on to study?

In order to progress to higher roles such as a supervisory or a senior role you will need to study the level 3 advanced apprenticeship in health and social care.

Entry requirements

No specific entry requirements are necessary for the apprenticeship. Literacy and numeracy skills to a level one are desirable but we can offer additional learning support if required.
