Advanced Apprenticeship Plumbing NVQ 3

Overview

This advanced apprenticeship allows you to study towards a recognised qualification whilst in an employed position.

If you work in a plumbing role and supervise others then this is the apprenticeship for you.

Description

Your advanced apprenticeship will include taking responsibility for plumbing and heating systems in new buildings.

You will also take responsibility for existing systems and equipment as well as supervising staff.

You will cover:

  • Maintaining a safe working environment, as well as effective plumbing working relationships

  • Contributing to the improvement of plumbing business products and services

  • Installing, servicing and maintaining complex domestic plumbing systems and components

  • Commissioning and decommissioning complex domestic plumbing systems

  • Hot and cold water systems

  • Above ground discharge pipework systems

  • Central heating systems i.e. boilers and controls

  • Gas supply systems

How long is the course?

The course normally lasts two years, depending on the individual.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed in your place of work.

Underpinning knowledge and practical support is given one day a week at West Nottinghamshire College.

Success rates

The success rate is 79% for the plumbing advanced apprenticeship.

What will I study?

As part of your advanced apprenticeship you will cover the following:

  • NVQ 3 Plumbing

  • Level 3 Certificate in Plumbing Studies

  • Unvented hot water and water regulations

  • Key Skills Level 2 Communications

  • Key Skills Level 2 Application of Number.

What does the course lead to?

After completing the advanced apprenticeship, as a plumbing supervisor you will be equipped with the necessary skills and qualifications required for working and supervising others within the plumbing industry.

What can I go on to study?

Following on from the level 3 there may be the opportunity for progression onto a foundation degree. 

Entry requirements

You must have already achieved a Plumbing Level 2 qualification.

You must be employed in a plumbing role supervising others.

How much does it cost?

If you are between the age of 16 and 18 the apprenticeship is free of charge. If you are 19 and above your employer must pay a one off fee.

During your apprenticeship your employer is obliged to pay you a wage at the minimum rate for an apprentice.
