Overview

If you work in a supervisory role in care, then this is the advanced apprenticeship for you.

Description

Your advanced apprenticeship will cover:

  • Supporting the care, protection and wellbeing of adults in either age group 18-65 or 65+ with either learning or physical disabilities.
  • Working as part of a team to provide the best possible care.
  • Main areas of care including personal care, ensuring a safe environment, communication skills, building independence.
  • Completing records for individuals.
  • Demonstrating health and safety practice.

At supervisory level you will also cover care planning, medication, and supporting junior staff.

How long is the course?

Depending on the individual, the course normally lasts up to 24 months.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed in the workplace.

What will I study?

As part of your advanced apprenticeship you will cover the following:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care
  • VRQ Technical Certificate Level 3 in Health and Social Care 
  • Key Skills Level 2 in Application of Number
  • Key Skills Level 2 in Communication
  • Employer rights and responsibilities
  • Health and safety training
  • CRB check.

What does the course lead to?

At the end of your advanced apprenticeship you will have a recognised qualification as well as the necessary skills and experience to support your future career in care as a supervisor or co-ordinator.

What can I go on to study?

You may want to develop into a mentoring role.

You can go on to study short courses in areas such as medication and infection control or you may want to progress to a care management qualification.

Entry requirements

You will need to have already achieved this qualification at level 2. 

As this is an employed position you must already be employed in a relevant supervisory care role.

How much does it cost?

If you are between the age of 16 and 18 the apprenticeship is free of charge. If you are 19 and above your employer must pay a one off fee.

During your apprenticeship your employer is obliged to pay you a wage at the minimum rate for an apprentice.

How do I apply?

Before you can apply for this apprenticeship course you must already have found an employer who has agreed to take you on as an apprentice.
