Advanced Apprenticeship Hairdressing NVQ 3
Overview
This is a work-based course aimed at providing you with practical knowledge and experience of working as a hairdresser.
Description
As an apprentice hairdresser you will be able to offer a more advanced level of techniques and services in salons, including advanced cutting and colouring skills as well as more creative styling.
How long is the course?
Depending on the individual the course normally lasts 18 months - 2 years.
How will I be assessed?
Much of the study is done ‘on the job’ and you will be assessed on a regular basis in your place of work throughout the length of the course.
Underpinning knowledge and practical support is given one day a week in the Academy, West Nottinghamshire College's own commercial hair and beauty salon.
What will I study?
As part of your apprenticeship you will be required to complete the following:
NVQ Level 3 in Hairdressing
Key Skills at Level 2 in Communication
Key Skills at Level 2 in Application of Number
Employer Roles and Responsibilities
What does the course lead to?
At the end of this programme you will gain more confidence and skills, enabling you to offer more creative and advanced styles in your place of work.
You could also further your career by applying for higher positions in salon management or a position as a senior stylist.
What can I go on to study?
Further study on the Foundation Degree Hairdressing and Salon Management is possible (available at the college).
Entry requirements
You must be aged between 16 and 24 and employed within hairdressing.
You will need a good educational background and a hairdressing level 2 qualification.
Good communication skills are essential.
Start dates
If you are between the age of 16 and 18 the Apprenticeship is free of charge. If you are 19 and above your employer must pay a one off fee.
During your apprenticeship your employer is obliged to pay you a wage at the minimum rate for an apprentice.

Before you can apply for this apprenticeship course you must already have found an employer who has agreed to take you on as an apprentice.
