Access to HE Nursing and Healthcare
Access to HE is specifically designed for adults who have been out of formal education for some time, but want to enter university-level courses.
You will study a number of different modules which will be made up of mandatory subjects. You will also undertake a number of core academic subjects that are designed to prepare you for the demands of higher level study. These are common to all Access pathways, with an emphasis on critical thinking, the techniques of written and spoken presentation andresearch skills.
How long is the course?
Our Access to HE courses can be studied within one academic year – up to 450 hours of classtime.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed on the assignments which are set regularly throughout the course. Some of these assignments will be completed under exam conditions but most will be completed in your own time.
What will I study?
You will study a range of modules as list below:
- Study Skills
- Maths (Level 2)
- Individual Research Project in Biology
- Human biology
- General biology
This modules are subject to the programme being revalidated in March 2014 and may change.
What does the course lead to?
There are a range of nursing training courses available to progress onto including:
- BSc (Hons) Nursing (choice of adult, child or mental health specialisms)
You must be at least 19 years of age to enrol on an Access to HE course.
grade C or above in GCSE Maths AND English.
You may also complete GCSE Science alongside the Access programme if necessary.
The above entry requirements are subject to the programme being revalidated in March 2014 and may change.

You may be charged a fee for your course depending on your age and circumstances. If you are aged 24 or over and studying a qualifying Level 3, 4 or 5 course you may be able to apply for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan to cover the costs.

All students must be interviewed before starting the programme.
