Budding film-makers at West Nottinghamshire College enjoyed a taste of creating Hollywood blockbuster movies.

Students on the BTEC Extended Diploma in Creative Media (TV and film) course took part in an interactive workshop led by industry experts from film and video production company BesQ earlier this week (Monday 30 April).

They were given the opportunity to put their skills into practice in the college’s TV studios as well as trying out the Warsop-based company’s state-of-the-art RED Camera equipment.  They also received tips and advice from proprietors Chris Wetton and Tyrone Braithwaite.

One of the leading cinematic digital cameras for recording film, the RED camera has been used to create hit movies such as Pirates of the Caribbean and The Social Network.

Media student Rebecca Hill said: “I was afraid of touching the camera at first as I didn’t want to break it! It was brilliant to be able to try out equipment that professional film-makers use and I enjoyed learning about new media technology.”

Mr Wetton said: “The students appreciated the differences between the equipment they use at college and the RED Camera and worked very creatively in the studio, which has really helped move their directing and production skills to another level.”

BesQ boasts almost 20 years’ film-making experience for clients including the BBC, Channel 4, The Discovery Channel, National Geographic, the Football Association, the NHS and local councils.  It also specialises in hiring out media equipment.
