The International Food and Drink Festival, on Monday 6 March, is being organised by students on the Foundation Degree in Tourism and Event Management and will welcome a range of food producers and companies for guests to try out their wares.

Twenty-one-year-old student Hayley Power, from Pleasley, is one of the ten students tasked with organising and arranging the food festival, which is being held in the college’s Refined fine dining restaurant at the Derby Road campus.

The students, who are studying at the college’s new Vision University Centre, have written a proposal as part of their foundation degree to organise the event to raise funds for Framework – a charity and housing association that helps homeless people and brings opportunities to people in the East Midlands.

Hayley said: “We’ve worked hard on organising the event and we’re delighted to be having businesses such as The Bombay Sweets Centre, The Little Sugar Shack and an independent Thai food company having stalls at the event.

“There will be a wide range of food for people to sample as well as a prize tombola and drinks. It’s free to attend but we’ll be taking donations throughout the event which runs from 11am to 2pm.

“Holding a public event like this will give us a taste of planning large-scale occasions which we can use in the future and will give us new confidence moving forwards in the events industry.”

People can just turn up to the food and drink festival at the college’s restaurant – Refined – on Monday 6 March from 11am.
