‘A Day of Dance and Theatre’ takes place at the centre, on Derby Road, Mansfield this Sunday (19 February) from 10am until 4pm to help raise vital funding for 36-year-old Liz Sheppard, who has a rare form of cancer.

Some of the country’s top dance tutors will be hosting dance workshops for children aged 12 and upwards and for 16 plus age groups, as well as a young dance class being staged for under 12s.

Ladies’ fitness classes will be held by fitness coach Travis Kerry in the afternoon for a small fee and crowds will be entertained by live music from piano and vocal duo ‘Unrelated’.

All money from the classes, as well as from the range of gift stalls and cake sales will all go towards raising funds for Liz.

Mum of three girls, Liz, was diagnosed in 2015 with a rare form of cancer called small cell stomach cancer. She began chemotherapy which began to shrink her tumour. After further chemotherapy and radiotherapy doctors confirmed the growth of a new tumour and diagnosed Liz as terminal with less than a year to live.

Months later Liz was recommended for immunotherapy and has privately funded this and has seen great results, with her tumour on her neck already shrinking. Immunotherapy is a pioneering treatment that uses the body’s own immune system to fight off cancer.

The treatment costs £5,000 per session and Liz has already funded six sessions. Friends and family are working incredibly hard to raise cash to fund further treatment which will extend Liz’s life and hopefully continue to reduce her tumour.

Members of the public can turn up to hear the live band, shop at the stalls and buy raffle tickets. To book a workshop or class please contact event organiser Jenny Finney on 07912 349273.
