From the Far East to West Notts

West Nottinghamshire College has played host to more than 25 headteachers from the Chinese province of Guangdong.

They toured the college’s state-of-the-art facilities and saw students at work as part of an international study visit organised by The University of Nottingham and the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL).
A team from the university’s China campus in Ningbo and the NCTL is working with the British Council in Guangzhou and Guangdong University to deliver a headteachers’ training programme at the Nottingham institution’s School of Education, based at its Jubilee Campus in Nottingham.
The headteachers, who work at primary and secondary schools in Guangdong, are currently visiting schools and academies in Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire to learn from the UK education system. The programme also includes visits to Oxford and Cambridge universities.
Their visit to West Nottinghamshire College yesterday (Thursday 15 January) involved tours of its creative industries and digital technologies hub and lifestyle academy at the Derby Road campus in Mansfield, and its construction and engineering centres in neighbouring Ashfield.
Deputy principal Patricia Harman, who hosted the visit, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome our visitors from China and not only show them our wonderful educational facilities but also our approach to teaching and learning.
“I’m sure they have taken away some useful ideas which will help them with their observations and studies, while for us it represented a valuable opportunity to learn more about the Chinese education system.”
