Posted: 06 May 2015

A fortnight of artistic talent is coming to West Nottinghamshire College as students from creative industries and digital technologies bring their end-of-year projects to a show-stopping finalé.

University-level students on performing arts, music and interactive media programmes are hosting two weeks of their final projects for family, friends and members of the public.

Kicking off the exhibition students will be hosting a launch night on Friday 8 May in the Create building at the college’s Derby Road campus. Members of the public are invited from 6-9pm where they can experience:

BA Music students playing an original set based on Barcelona and the Spanish Civil War inspired by a class visit to Spain earlier this year.

BND Musical Theatre students performing a number from musical called Rent.

HND and BA Performing Arts students performing four scenes from Macbeth and Equus which will be performed in full at Create Theatre later in the fortnight.

HND Interactive Media students will be presenting audio visual work on a large video screen, plus their individual portfolios which visitors can interact with on computers, while music students will showcase live music, studio productions and original compositions.

Refreshments will be available on the night. Tickets are free and can be booked by calling Carole Littlewood on 01623 627191 ext 8295 or by email at carole.littlewood@wnc.ac.uk

The main festival which follows runs from Monday 11 May to Friday 22 May will feature more of the students’ work and will be open to the public throughout the two weeks.

Performances taking place in Create Theatre will include Equus by Peter Shaffer, performed by HND year one Performing Arts students on 18 May at 7pm.

HND year two Performing Arts students will perform Macbeth by William Shakespeare on Wednesday 20 and Thursday 21 May. To book tickets for both performances visit www.createtheatre.co.uk

Head of creative industries and digital technologies Steve McAlone said: “These two weeks are sure to be packed full of our students’ own original and thought-provoking ideas and artistic creations.

“The wealth of skills we have under one roof within this curriculum area is impressive and to be able to showcase the students’ final projects to the people of Mansfield and Ashfield is a real privilege and I’m proud of what I’ve seen so far.

“Many students on these university-level programmes will be going on to forge their own artistic careers which we endeavour to follow with interest.”
