Learning Resources aims to provide relaxed and welcoming learning environments for both staff and students. Our services include Learning Resources Centres and IT facilities.
Accessibility
Consideration is given to making all resources accessible to people with a disability or learning difficulty – hence we provide specialist software and equipment. These include screen filters, large monitors, large key keyboards, height adjustable desks, specialist software such as Supernova, Lunar, Text Help Gold and Widget. Information Guides and Resource Guides are adapted to meet individual requirements and staff are always on hand to provide assistance.
Learning Resource Centres
We have a number of multi-media Learning Resource Centres (LRCs) offering comprehensive library and information services. There are two main LRCs located at Derby Road and Chesterfield Road.
We have a wide range of resources including books for study and leisure, DVDs, newspapers, magazines and journals. Our library catalogue is available online to help with finding resources. We also provide specialist electronic resources that can be accessed from home as well as in college.
The LRCs have study spaces for individual and group work and computers are available for accessing the internet. Subject specialist Learning Resource Advisors are also available to give support in finding information and using electronic resources.
IT Facilities
These are available at Derby Road and Chesterfield Road on a drop-in basis providing computer facilities for students to work on their assignments. Software includes Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint and Publisher. Internet access, printing and scanning are available.
Introductory booklets and help sheets are provided for independent learning and staff are available to give support and advice for any IT related queries. A series of workshops on different topics are also available to help improve IT skills.
